The Brain and Brains of Pretty Happy Dogs

Pretty Happy Dogs was shaped not only through years of study and experience, but through life shared with two Australian Shepherds: Rowan and Willow.

Meet Rowan and Willow

Rowan was calm, thoughtful, and deeply perceptive — the kind of dog who taught quiet confidence simply through the way he moved through the world. He had a remarkable steadiness about him and played a huge role in shaping the relationship-focused philosophy that sits at the heart of Pretty Happy Dogs today.

Willow brings softness, sensitivity, curiosity, and joy. She reminds us that learning should feel safe, playful, and emotionally supportive — for both dogs and humans alike.

Together, Rowan and Willow inspired the belief that training is about far more than obedience. It’s about trust, communication, emotional wellbeing, and building a life where dogs feel genuinely happy and understood.

Willow, our demo dog

Willow is the heart and soul behind many of our classes, demonstrations, and training sessions.

Gentle, expressive, and wonderfully in tune with people, Willow helps demonstrate calm handling, communication, confidence-building exercises, and relationship-based learning in real-world situations. She also reminds us that every dog is an individual — with their own sensitivities, personality, and way of learning.

Clients often find comfort in Willow’s calm presence and playful nature, especially nervous owners or dogs who need a little extra reassurance.

Most importantly, Willow helps show that training does not need to feel rigid or intimidating. It can feel natural, connected, and genuinely enjoyable for both ends of the lead.

Although Rowan is no longer physically by our side, his influence continues to shape Pretty Happy Dogs every day — in the calmness we value, the trust we build, and the gentle way we approach dogs and the people who love them.

In many ways, Pretty Happy Dogs exists because of both of them.
